Herbs for Adrenal Exhaustion

Most herbs do not attack microorganisms directly. Rather they provide nutrients that support the functioning of white blood cells and protect these precious cells from the toxins they ingest. Some herbs also nourish the bone marrow and/or spleen and aid in the production of new blood cells.

Scutellaria baicalensis

Scutellaria baicalensis is one of the fifty fundamental herbs of traditional Chinese medicine and was one of the active components of the popular PC-SPES prostate formula that was withdrawn from the market in 2002 following reports of varying traces of pharmaceutical drugs in the formula. The New York University Medical Center reports, “Highly preliminary evidence suggests that baicalin can enhance the activity of antibiotics against antibiotic-resistant staph bacteria. Other highly preliminary evidence suggests that baicalin, wogonin, and baicalein may have anticancer, anti-inflammatory, liver-protective, anti-anxiety, and antihypertensive effects.”

Black Cumin Extract, 2 oz.
Nigella sativa

Black cumin seeds have a long history of use as both a culinary and medicinal herb. The alcohol extract is different from the essential oil and cold pressed oils. It has been shown to have a protective effect on the kidneys and liver. The extract has also been effective in lowering blood pressure and alleviating asthma. Some in vivo laboratory tests with animals also suggest a cytotoxic effect.

Cat's Claw Herbal Extract, 2 oz.

Cat's Claw Extract, 2 oz.
Uncaria tomentosa

Uncaria tomentosa is a rain forest herb with demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties. It is therefore often used for people with rheumatoid arthritis. Preliminary studies suggest that cat's claw slows tumor growth and that it enhances immunity. It is safe in the recommended doses; side effects are usually associated with possible allergic reactions to plants in the Rubiaceae family.

As more and more studies are being conducted, interest in cat's claw has come to include AIDS (in conjunction with Jergon Sacha) and Lyme disease. There are a few studies suggesting that this herb is capable of such actions because it is not only a superb free-radical scavenger but also promotes the repair of DNA.

Alcohol: 45%

Contains: extract of Uncaria tomentosa bark in distilled water, organic grain alcohol, and pure vegetable glycerin.

Echinacea Extract, 2 oz.
Echinacea angustifolia

Echinacea is a Native American herb with a long history of use, mainly by the Plains Indians. It is perhaps one of the best known immune potentiators but its efficacy is greatest when taken preventatively rather than after symptoms begin to manifest. Those with both chronic and acute conditions can consider using Echinacea first and following up 20 minutes later with Spilanthes. This can be very effective with oral health issues.

Alcohol: 45%

Contains: fresh Echinacea angustifolia root in organic grain alcohol.

Pau d'Arco Herbal Extract. 2 oz.

Pau d'Arco Extract, 2 oz.
Tabebuia impetiginosa

Pau d'arco is one of the most well known South American herbs. It has a reputation for having anti-cancer, antimicrobial, and antifungal properties. It is also used to purify the blood and regulate blood sugar. Like many herbs with ethnobotanical traditions strongly suggestive of antitumoral properties, pau d'arco seems to benefit some patients more than others. It is widely believed to work better with patients with elevated levels of Candida albicans.

The earliest modern studies of pau d'arco were published by Dr. Theodore Meyer who successfully used it to cure very advanced cancers, especially leukemia. Some of his findings were questioned by those who attempted to attribute all results to a single compound. As with most herbs, the whole herb often protects against toxicity of the strongest chemical constituent, in this case, lapachol. In clinical trials, low doses stimulate immunity whereas higher doses reduce inflammation often associated with stimulation. As might be expected of an herb with antifungal properties, it helps to reduce allergic reactions.

Alcohol: 40%

Contains: extract of Tabebuia_impetiginosa bark in distilled water, organic grain alcohol, and pure vegetable glycerin.

Usnea Extract, 2 oz.
Usnea longissima

Usnea, sometimes called Old Man"s Beard, is a lichen that grows on trees in virtually every part of the world. It has significant immune enhancing properties and is considered by many as a substitute for antibiotics, but it is regarded as both antibacterial and antiviral. This statement always needs qualifying because natural remedies are very seldom "anti" anything since they work by increasing immunity rather than destroying pathogens directly. They do this by providing nutrients for white blood cells. Traditionally, usnea is considered to be immune enhancing and antifungal. It is safe and can be combined with other immune herbs such as echinacea. It is used mainly for sinus and respiratory relief as well as gynecological protection.

Alcohol: 79-81%

Contains: Extract of Usnea longissima Thallus in Organic Alcohol, Distilled Water, and Vegetable Glycerin.
