Desmodium adscendens

In Peruvian herbal medicine, Desmodium adscendens is used as a blood cleanser and to detoxify the body of environmental toxins and chemicals. It is an excellent herb for asthma and is antibacterial. It is trusted so much by some indigenous medicine practitioners that it is used to avert anaphylactic shock. It is antispasmodic and reduces tension in the bronchial passages making it easier to breathe. This same capacity to reduce spasm has given Amor do Campo its nickname of strong back. It is also vermicidal, antibacterial, and is considered by many to aid liver regeneration after exposure to toxins.

Bambusa arundinacea

Sometimes called banslochan or tabashir, bamboo manna is a silica-rich substance found in the nodal joints of some rare species of female bamboo plants. Silica is necessary for the bones, connective tissue, and collagen and confers strength and flexibility. Bamboo is the richest known source of silica and is used medicinally in both Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine as a restorative herb, especially for the lungs. It is antipyretic, antispasmodic, and antiparalytic. Some consider it an aphrodisiac as well.

Codonopsis Tangshen

Codonopsis is sometimes referred to as the poor man's ginseng. It is rich in saponins and has a capacity to penetrate and cleanse tissues. It is considered particularly beneficial to the lungs, spleen, and stomach. Research shows that it reduces blood pressure and increases immunity and hemoglobin. It is an adaptogen and supports the adrenals. There is significant research suggesting that use of codonopsis during and after radiation treatment can be very helpful.

Dan Shen Extract, 2 oz.
Salvia miltiorrhiza

Dan shen is a kind of sage with very red roots. It is commonly regarded as a blood moving herb, i.e., one used to improve circulation as well as the condition of the arteries and overall physiological functioning. Unlike most such herbs, it is not contraindicated for use by persons already taking anticoagulants though careful monitoring is, of course, advised, especially by Asian patients. Angelica sinensis

Dong quai is probably the second most valued herb in Chinese medicine and is often referred to as a sort of ginseng for women. It is used to balance the female reproductive system and is particularly useful during the critical period of puberty and menopause, but it also helps with the monthly cycle. It is a general tonic herb for almost all issues faced by women, everything from hormone balance to bleeding and the aftermath of giving birth to a baby. It is even used for headaches that are caused by blood insufficiency. Dong quai is a Chinese kind of angelica and should be considered by anyone who is discontinuing use of hormonal medications.

Ginkgo biloba

Ginkgo is believed to be the oldest tree on the Planet. The tea made with the leaves has been used for centuries to improve circulation to the brain. The leaf is regarded as a tonic for improving memory and concentration. The leaf tea has been approved in Germany for relieving symptoms of Alzheimer's disease and improving reaction time. Many report systemic improvements in circulation and less ringing in the ears.

Panax ginseng

Ginseng is one of the most famous adaptogenic herbs and has been used for thousands of years in Oriental medicine as a tonic, performance enhancer, and more recently for its usefulness in managing blood sugar levels in type II diabetes as well as lowering the risk of cancer. It is an antioxidant and, though warming, has anti-inflammatory properties. Tribulus terrestris

They are used to treat nocturnal emissions, impotency, gonorrhea, and scabies as well as difficult urination. They are also used for incontinence, male infertility and low libido. Studies done in Bulgaria suggest that this tonic effect is achieved by stimulating androgen receptors in the brain. Numerous clinical trials corroborate the claim that gokshura improves sexual performance and libido in men.

Centella asiatica

Brahmi supports the mind and nervous system, helping to improve memory and sustain intellectual effort. The leaves are considered to be very sattvic, i.e., pure as opposed to dull or stimulating. Gotu kola aids restful sleep and is a natural blood purifier. It was used by Machamuni Siddhar for his kalpa. In a way, brahmi is tridoshic because it reduces excess vata in the mind, is cooling to pitta, and decongesting to kapha.

Gymnema sylvestre

Gymnema is is also known as gurmar, the destroyer of sugar. It is hypothesized that its work begins by blocking sugar receptors on the tongue. The action lasts about two hours and helps to reduce sugar cravings. It has been used for 1500 years to support proper pancreatic function and hold blood sugar in a normal range by delaying absorption of sugar. Recent research suggests that it aids regeneration of the pancreas in a manner that allows the pancreas to produce more insulin.

He Shou Wu or Fo Ti is a famous Chinese longevity herb. It is used to prevent premature graying of the hair as well as to regenerate the body. Liver Tune Up, 4 oz.

Most liver cleansing formulas are very bitter and cold, but this one has some warming herbs to help digestion and promote detoxification simultaneously. It is intended for relatively long-term use, at least two months but those who have been exposed to more liver insults may find that they want to continue for 4-6 months or even a year.

Maca Extract, 2 oz.
Lepidium meyenii

Maca is a cruciferous vegetable that is consumed mainly for its roots which are something like turnips or radishes. The roots are a staple of the Incan diet and regarded as a super food. Maca is renowned for its quick acting stamina boosting power. Herbalists consider the root to be a superb adaptogen. Maca grows in extremely high elevations and is cultivated without chemicals. It contains at least 55 phytonutrients, including hormonal precursors. It works predominantly on the adrenals and secondarily on the reproductive system. Many people use it to power up before long drives or enhance performance. It is non-addictive and helps to normalize pathogenic states. It is considered to be a nutrient for the entire endocrine system and has a high mineral count. Maca is contraindicated for individuals that have a history of estrogen positive cancer.

Mold Chikitsa, 4 oz.

Many molds produce mycotoxins, the most serious of which is usually taken to be ochratoxin A. This is produced by some types of aspergillus and penicillium and can be found in food as well as in individuals infected with viable mold. Even long after the mold has been eliminated, these carcinogenic toxins may remain in the body: in the blood, liver, kidneys, stomach, lymph nodes, etc. In an Indian study, the four herbs in this formula were taken for 17 weeks with significant benefit. It is recommended that this product be used in conjunction with mycotoxin binding clays such as Montmorillonite and bentonite.

Commiphora molmol

Myrrh gum has a long history of use as both a medicine and perfume as well as incense. It is aromatic but intensely bitter. It is used in Chinese medicine to move stagnant blood and is often used for problems associated with menstruation as well as uterine tumors. Its use in Ayurvedic medicine is similar, but it is processed differently. In Western medicine, myrrh is used both internally and externally as an antiseptic. It is used mainly for toothaches and gums in mouthwashes and for wound healing and sprains externally. Studies suggest that it helps to maintain correct blood sugar and cholesterol levels. It is often used in the treatment of arthritis.

Oral Rinse, 2 oz.

This rinse is intended for those who do not have amalgams but who may have oral infections. The extract is to be added to a small amount of warm water, about 20 drops in a third of a cup of water. This should be swished around in the mouth and gargled and then spit into the sink. It is best if repeated 2-3 times a day, especially first thing in the morning and after meals.

This formula is suitable for children over the age of three. It is recommended that it be used for one week each month for three consecutive months. Best results can be expected when administered around the time of the full moon. The dosage is 10-30 drops, four times a day. Please shake before using.

Red Clover Extract, 2 oz.`
Trifolium pratense

Traditionally, red clover has been used to address some of the side effects of menopause. The flowering tops contain isoflavones (mostly genistein and daidzein) which some studies suggest have an estrogenic effect, but others deny this. It is considered safe for use by breast cancer patients who are post-menopause but the jury is not in on pre-menopausal persons. It is often used by post-menopausal women to reduce the risk of bone loss (osteoporosis) because the herb is rich in calcium and magnesium as well as vitamin C and niacin. Red clover is a blood purifier and is the main ingredient in Sundance Elixir, our version of the Hoxsey Tonic. It is generally recommended for melanoma patients since studies indicate it inhibits B16 melanoma cells. It is also often used to reduce the risk of prostate cancer.

Schisandra chinesis

Schisandra is one of the truly famous adaptogenic herbs. Shankhapushpi: Ayurvedic Herb for Anxiety and Mood Swings

Shankhapushpi Extract, 2 oz.
Convolvulus pluricalis

Shankhapushpi is the primary Ayurvedic herb for anxiousness and swift mood changes that are, in turn, usually attributed to vata derangement but sometimes to a mixture of vata and pitta disturbances. In such cases, Shankhapushpi is often the herb of choice for pacifying turbulent emotions. Shankhapushpi is a rasayana herb and is often used as a regenerative herb for the brain. It is believed to modulate the neurochemistry of the brain. Shankhapushpi aids memory and reduces tension due to mental stimulation.

Contains: Convolvulus pluricalis aerial parts 1:5 in distilled water, organic alcohol, and vegetable glycerin.

Sitz Salve, 30 ml.

This ointments is intended for use by those wishing to alleviate discomfort due to hemorrhoids and piles. It is astringent and helps to staunch bleeding, but it also relieves some pain while tonifying the arteries supplying blood to this critical part of the body.

Tikta Ghrita (Bitter Ghee), 5 oz.

This "Bitter Ghee" is excellent for cleansing the liver and other vital organs. It is made in small batches in a traditional way and offers an important addition to the line of medicated ghees offered on this site. The color is quite green due to the herbs used in the preparation. This ghee is particularly good for pitta and kapha types.

Vidanga Extract, 2 oz.
Embelia ribes

Vidanga is used to eliminate excess vata from the lower intestines. This is extremely important since vata can become debilitating. Vidanga also strengthens agni (digestive fire) and supports detoxification. In Ayurveda, it is regarded as ascaridal, specific for large intestinal nematodes, as well as giardia. In clinical trials, tape worms were expelled in 6-24 hours. It is also a febrifuge. Studies indicate that it is estrogenic and mildly progestogenic. The berries are spermicidal and are being studied as a natural contraceptive. The effects on male fertility are easily reversed once stopping the use of the berries.

Use of this herb should be suspended if changes in peripheral vision are noted. It should also not be used by those trying to have children since it acts as an antifertility agent.
